LM5023: LM5023

Part Number: LM5023
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28722, UCC28C44

Tool/software:

I want to design dc- dc flyback converter for below specs-

input voltage range= 14 to 150 Vdc

output voltage= 12Vdc

output current= 1.25amp

can i use LM5023 controller for this design? else you can suggest alternate solution.

also provide reference design for above mention specs.

  • Hello,

Your inquiry has been received and will be answered in the order it was received.

  • Hello,

Your input range is large at 10.7 to 1.   That is very aggressive.  Typical is 3 to 1 and 5 to 1 is obtainable.

I have seen 9 to 1 done with primary side regulated flyback controllers.  The following will bring you to an application note that discusses how to design with a UCC28722 for this application.   This device is similar to the LM5023 so 9 to 1 would be possible.

If you really need to design for a 10.7 to 1 input range.  You might consider going with a fixed frequency two-switch forwarded in voltage mode control.  You will need to limit the duty cycle to 50% maximum.  At max line the duty cycle would drop down to 4.7%.   If you decide to this you can use a UCC28C44 which has an on-board amplifier and is limited to 50% duty cycle.

So, you can use the LM5023 for a 9 to 1 input range.  If you want to go more than I would recommend a UCC28C44 in a two switch forward converter.

If you decide use the UCC28C44 in a two-switch forwarded forward converter for this application please repost with UCC28C44 in the title so the appropriate applications engineer can support you with your design efforts.

    Regards,
