My customer considers DCDC buck controller for their next project. The specifications are as below ;

Topology : 4 phase buck converter (including Si MOSFET)

Input voltage : 51.2V (44 to 59)

Input current : 14.8A (12.9 to 17.2)

Output voltage : 12 ± 0.1V (9.0 to 14.6)

Output current : Max 60A for 4 phase

Power ratings : 720W

My customer found 4 parts as attached file below. Please choose best device for my customer.

It is okay that suggest other devices.

One more question, Could you check the RTM schedule of LM5137-Q1 and LM5137F-Q1?

Hi Chase,

As Vin-max = 59V, I would go with the 80V-rated LM5137-Q1 (or LM5137F-Q1 if ASIL D is required).

My customer wants to use GAN FET with LM5137(F)-Q1 instead of IGBT. Is it possible?

Or Could you suggest other vuck controller devices which can use with GAN FET?

Hi Chase,

IGBTs are totally unsuitable here - you probably mean MOSFETs. For GaN you could consider LMG2100.

Also, take a look at the LM5137F-Q1 EVM. It's setup for 12Vout at 10A/phase, 400kHz, and uses 80V onsemi Q-grade FETs.

One more questions.

What is the maximum voltage for supply external gate pin of MOSFET in case of LM5137-Q1/LM5137F-Q1?

I could not check it because it needs NDA to see full datasheet, but my customer said that LM5137-Q1/LM5137F-Q1 seem that the maximum voltage to external gate pin of MOSFET is 5V.

They want to use more efficient MOSFET, so the voltage for gate pin should be more than 8V.

Please check this issue. Thanks.

Hi Chase,

The LM5137-Q1 data sheet specifies this...the gate drive voltage is 5V.

If higher gate drive amplitude is needed, take a look at the LM5145 / LM5146 controller family where it is 7.5V (or higher if external VCC is available).

My customer said that they need over 8V for gate drive amplitude.

Are there any device which can support over 8V without external VCC?

Hi Chase,

Take a look at the LM5145 (75V) and LM5146 (100V) with 7.5V gate drive. Also, the LM5190 (80V CC/CV controller) has higher gate drive.

I think LM5190 can support up to 7.5V gate drive. Then Should I use external VCC for over 8V gate drive?

LM5190 is 8V. Also, the LM5146 accepts an external bias 8V and above.

Hello Chase,

Please refer to the VCC voltage. the VCC voltage is the voltage source for the gate drive.
