Our design supports DP Alt Mode, USB 3.0 and PD through the USB-C interface. Currently, we are using TPS65987DDK, HD3SS460, and TUSB8041A. However, the TPS65987D is not recommended for new designs, and the newly recommended TPS25751 does not support alternate mode. Do you have any good suggestions?

Hi Eric,

Unfortunately, we currently do not have a recommendation for a DP alt mode USB-C PD controller replacement for the TPS65987DDK. If you are currently using the TPS65987DDK in a project, you can continue using it in the current project as there are no plans to EOL the device and it will continue to be produced. For future designs, the TPS65987DDK is NRND.

If HD3SS460 wishes to simultaneously achieve USB 3.0 and DP from a Type-C interface, must it require Alternate mode provided by a chip similar to the TPS65987D?

Hi Eric,

I'm going to reassign this thread to the team that supports the HD3SS460 parts. I primarily support the PD controllers.

The answer is likely yes, the HD3SS460 is a highs speed cross-point switch for USB Type-C. You will need a PD controller to negotiate DP alt mode and report the polarity and data connection of the port for to the HD3SS460.

I agree with Christopher on this.

As the HD3SS460 is fine for your application and you will just need a PD controller to control the configuration of this device.
