LM334: The LM334 output current tolerance

Part Number: LM334

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using an LM334 device in our circuit configured as a constant current source of 35uA. The resistors used to set the current are 0.1% tolerance. We have built and tested a batch of 31 circuits and measured the current. From the results of the measurements, we calculate that the spread in current values is 35uA +/-2.85%. Looking at the data sheet for the LM334 device we see the parameter set current error  (10uA -> 1mA)  with a tolerance of +/-6%. The spread in values we see +/-2.85% is much less than the data sheet value of +/- 6%.

Could this be batch related?

When we launch into volume manufacture, should we expect to see a wider spread in set current aligned to the data sheet +/-6%?

Thabnk you,

  • Hi Sahand,

    Thanks for your question!

That is correct. Please always adhere to the datasheet specifications, in this case +/- 6%.

You may be seeing a spread of values that is batch related, but over volume, it is necessary to consider the datasheet max.

    I hope this helps!

    Best Regards,

    Andrew Li
