UCC28704EVM-724: Modifying UCC28704EVM-724 design to take 1200Vdc input

Part Number: UCC28704EVM-724
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28704, UCC28722

Tool/software:

I would like to use the UCC28704EVM-724 design as a starting point for a high input voltage, isolated, DC-DC converter. Input voltage range = 200Vdc - 1200Vdc (This is ideal, 450Vdc-900Vdc may be ok), output voltage = 24V, max output current = 1.87A. Aside from the obvious component voltage/current rating modifications what other modifications would need to be made to the UCC28704EVM-724 design to meet this higher input voltage requirement?

  • Hello,

The main thing you need to redesign is the transformer turns ratio and magnetizing inductance.

Since you are doing a design that has a 6 to 1 input range special care needs to be used in selecting the magnetizing inductance.  The following link will bring you to an application note that discusses in detail how to do this.  Even though it was written for the UCC28722 it applies to the UCC28704.
