TPS62130A: RDS(on) when VIN=5V

Part Number: TPS62130A

Tool/software:

Can the TPS62130A regulate 5V down to 4.5V?  Is there a different RDS(on) I should use for VIN=5V?  Or should I use 120mohm (VIN=3V) in my calculations?

VIN(min) = VOUT(min) + Iout*(RDS(on) + RL)

DC resistance for DFE322520F-2R2M=P2 is 40mohm

With worst case Iout

VIN(min) = 4.5V + 3A*(120mohm + 40mohm) = 4.98V

However, our estimates for Iout is probably closer to 600mA

VIN(min) = 4.5V + 600mA*(120mohm + 40mohm) = 4.596V

  • Hi Joe,

The 5V Rdson would be very close to the value at 6V. I would suggest to use the max value and not the typical value of Rdson and RL to ensure stable operation across all corners. With those values, Vin(min) = 4.5+0.6*(0.19+0.046) = 4.65V. You might also need to consider some tolerance on the 5V input. If you are able to get 4.65V at input considering the tolerance, you should be good to use it for 4.5V output at 600mA load. If you need any more help in calculating the values, you can use webench tool to design and simulate for your configuration:
