TPS7A87: Is 500uF output cap Okay?

Part Number: TPS7A87

Tool/software:

Hello team,

I don't find any max output cap value for TPS7A87.

My customer is expecting 500uF of output capacitor for their design.
Is 500uF output cap okay? Will it oscillate?

  • Hey,

a 500µF capacitor will be fine. Here are some things to consider though. Ensure the capacitor is low ESR and effective capacitance (after voltage / temperature derating) stays above approximately 5µF.

If your capacitor is an electrolytic capacitor (higher ESR), that ESR generally dampens the loop improving stability but can slow transient response. I'd recommend placing a 10 - 22µF Low-ESR ceramic right at the OUT pin in parallel with the bulk cap to ensure optimal high frequency stability and transient response

    Hope this helps.
