TPS51396A: Needed parameters (Acp & ωRI) for stability-analysis according to SLVAF11

Part Number: TPS51396A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS51396, TPS568230

Tool/software:

Dear support-team,

I have a short request regarding a Step-Down Voltage Regulator (TPS51396A) from TI.

In the Application Report "SLVAF11" it is described how to select an LC-combination for a stable regulator. However, to follow this calculations two regulator-specific constants "Acp" and "ωRI" are needed.

For me the following questions arise:

  • Is this Application Report even applicable to this regulator?
  • Are the parameters "Acp" and "ωRI" available on your side? Would it be possible to send these parameters to me?
  • In the datasheet of the regulator, there are specified some recommended component values. For the  minimum Output-Capacitance, is it possible to use a lower value than specified if the system would still be stable according to the Application Report "SLVAF11"?

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi Christoph,

    1. It's applicable.

    2. The parameters of TPS51396 are same as TPS568230 in the application report. You could refer to that.

    3. The table on the datasheet include min/max values validated during development. It's possible to use lower capacitance than the recommended min value.

Application report SLVAF11 provides a method to calculate the min value theoretically. But you still need to validate the BOM on bench. And sometimes, the min capacitance value is limited by the requirement of output ripple or load transient performance instead of stability, those are not considered in this application report.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
