BQ24072T: System operation during batterry charging

I am considering using the BQ2407xT to operate a system while charging the battery.

The system consumes an average current of about 12mA when powered, and a peak current of about 1A when the processor starts up.

I am thinking of connecting the battery to the BAT terminal and powering the system from the OUT terminal, but since the peak current at startup is large,

I am concerned that this will not be a problem. Is it possible to create such a system with the BQ2407xT?

Hello,

The BQ24072T is rated for up to 4.5A output current from the OUT pin, is your application going above 4.5A? If the system load on OUT is not above 4.5A the charger should behave normally.

Thank you for your reply.

As you advised, the output current from the OUT pin is indeed 4.5A, but the input current of the IN pin is 1.5A.

So I think that the maximum will be 1.5A when the battery is empty. Is my guess wrong?

You are correct, if the battery is dead and the input source is present, max output will be lower at 1.5A.
