Hi Team,

In my design, the input voltage (Vin) is fixed at 3.3V, and the output voltage (Vout) is set to 5V using the TPS61027DRCR boost converter. The load current is 200mA. When the device is powered on with the load connected (drawing 200mA), the output voltage remains at 0V and does not reach 5V. However, if the load is disconnected during power-up and then connected after startup, the output reaches 5V as expected.

I also tested this behavior on the EVM and observed the same issue.

Let me know if you want help diagnosing the root cause or fixing the circuit or is it normal behavior? If it is normal behavior, why you haven't mentioned anything detailed? and mentioned for 1500mA?

Hi Murali,

the device is unable to fully start up with 200mA load. the 1500mA current limit is just after start up.

The start up current limit is also listed in the EC table.

Hi Nini,

I'm able to get your point. But If i don't have any load switch to turn off the load, device won't fully start up right?

How to solve this issue? is there way to change the BOM level modification solution available or drop in replacement IC available for same with these issues resolved.

Kindly give me the work around options so that I can rework the board and use it for evaluation.

Hi Murali,

You could choose device with larger current limit, such as TPS61022 and TPS61033.

Hi Nini,

Thanks for the quick reply. But it seems both suggested IC are not exactly drop in replacement. Could you suggest the one like that? Also make sure to put these as primary factors in datasheet

TPS61033 is a good choice as I recommended .

Hi Nini,

Thanks for your support. Kindly add a note in existing boost converter datasheet. It could be useful for design engineers to know and add load switch importance. Since there not much of detailing about pre charge limiter drawbacks and its solution, it is better to mention load switch recommendation in application circuits. Hope you have understood my point.
