as i have planned to use the scheme like in this EVM TUSB1046 USB Type-C Enabler Evaluation Module (Rev. A) in one of our New Designs .

As TPS65987DDHRSHR part NRND please suggest is there any drop in replacement part, if drop-in replacement not there any functional replacement is available to suit the application of the EVM TUSB1046 USB Type-C Enabler Evaluation Module (Rev. A) ?????

Hi Yadagiri,

Unfortunately, we do not have a drop in or a functional replacement for the TPS65987DDK in DP Alt mode applications at this time. We do not have an active PD controller for this application at this time.

Hi Chris, what is TI recomandation on the PD part TPS65987D for upcoming designs and at present designs for DP alt Mode. if we adapt this NRND part TPS65987D in our design now, can we get a near replacement in upcoming designs or production time??

Hi Yadagiri,

At this point in time there is no clear timeline on a DP alt mode replacement for the TPS65987D family of parts. Unfortunately, I would not recommend adapting the NRND TPS65987D into your design.

what is the difference between TPS65987DDK, TPS65987DH and TPS65987DJ ?????,

1. i am using the EVM https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sllu255a/sllu255a.pdf?ts=1739518693382&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Ftool%252FTUSB1046EVM with additionally added feature like variable dc-dc converter as in EVM https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tiduef3/tiduef3.pdf?ts=1747201780593.

for both of this combination i have made a design for DP alt mode on USB-c 3.0.

Now can i use any of these ICs in both of above evaluation boards TPS65987DDK, TPS65987DH and TPS65987DJ to test and confirm as well as in my designed circuit ??

because of non availability of EVM for TPS65987DH i am procuring EVM for TPS65987DDK https://www.ti.com/tool/TPS65987DDKEVM to test the variable DC-DC and DP alt mode settings for TPS65987DH.

is it ok for my application to swap TPS65987DDK, TPS65987DH and TPS65987DJ ??

Hi Yadagiri,

As mentioned before, none of the TPS6598x family is recommended for new designs. These devices are not being End of Life'd, but support will be limited going forwards, and they will not be able to support an active version of the PD spec within the next year.

The main differences are supported use case and how recent the part is. If you had to use one of these parts, it's probably best to use the TPS65987DDK because it is the most recent part that also supports DP alt mode.

Each device needs unique binary images loaded on bootup, you cannot use the same binary between the different parts.

The DUO-evm only works with the TPS65987DH. There is no binary for the TPS65987DDK or DJ.

For the TUSB1046 EVM, you should use the chip that is already on the EVM.

No, you should not be swapping between devices, you should commit to one.

No, this is not recommended.

if the binary files are different ok but i need to know the GUI for the above EVM type architecture to use TPS65987DDK in place of TPS65987DDH . can you please help me ?

Hi Yadagiri,

Please understand that you may not be able to pass USB-C PD compliance with this part.

Yes, this tool will work.

You will need to generate the full flash binary using the GUI tool. With the GUI, you can generate a new configuration for the TPS65987DDK and configure the part to match what is needed for the EVM.

Once you have the binary, you will need to flash it to the EEPROM using a 3rd party tool of your choice. I have used a TotalPhase Aardvark and a Dediprog in the past, but other device may work.
