BQ40Z50: Configuration for RSOC calculation in fast discharge application.

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Hello

We are developing a motor control product that uses the BQ40Z50 for battery management, we have 2 battery pack discharge scenarios.

Scenario A: battery will discharge slowly over time while in storage.

Scenario B: battery pack will discharge fast while running a motor (under 10 minutes)

if we discharge the battery slowly the SOC appears to be accurate.

if we discharge the battery fast the SOC seems to get to 0% SOC too quickly, it is obvious that there is still plenty of capacity left at 0% as we can continue to run the motor for a long period of time after it has reached 0%

Can you please advise on configuration settings we should look at to make the SOC more accurate in the fast discharge scenario. the troublesome area appears to be between 40% and 0% SOC.

We have confirmed this is not a case of forcing the SOC to 0% due to configuration settings, but more like a rapid decline in SOC from 40% to 0% in the high discharge scenario.

Regards

Ian
