TPS6522005-EP: Regarding the efficiency:

Part Number: TPS6522005-EP

Tool/software:

Dear Team,

i am using the above mentioned part as a power management IC in my design. I am configuring the outputs as follows

  TPS6522005-EP TPS6522005-EP TPS6522005-EP TPS6522005-EP TPS6522005-EP TPS6522005-EP TPS6522005-EP
PMIC BUCK and LDOs PMIC Buck 1 PMIC Buck 2 Regulator PMIC Buck Regulator 3 LDO1 LDO2 LDO3 LDO4
Current (A) 3.5 2 2 0.4 0.4 0.3 0.4
Output Voltage (V) 0.9 0.85 3.3 3.3 1.2 1.2 1.2
Input Voltage (V) 5 5 5 5 5 5 5
Efficiency

But in the datasheet efficiency is only given for 1v8 output voltage.

Please provide me with the efficency filled table and Graphs or any form of source to show where we can determine that particular efficiency.

Please respond ASAP.

Thanks and regards,
Maharajan P

  • Hi Maharajan,

We have collected Efficiency data at discrete points, please see the attached.

  • Hi Sathish,

Can you please Provide me a clarity Since I cant Understand the Attached Image.

If its like you share Individual graph for every buck and LDO with respect to the the Input and output requirement that I have Attached in the above table or
By filling the efficiency columns of the Above mentioned Table Sharing it to me , It would be More Helpfull

    Thanks and Regards,
    Maharajan P

  • Hi Sathish,

    sorry for the confusoin earlier
Please refere the corrected Table Attached Below

LDO4 current was mentioned as 0.4A earlier now it is corrected to 0.3A

    Thanks and regards,
    Maharajan P

  • Hi Maharajan,

For LDOs there won't be any Efficiency curve, just take the drop across the passFET based on the RDSON value.

    Sathish

  • Hi Sathish,

    Thank you for the response,

For Buck 1 , 2, 3 can you provide separate Graphs and the efficiency Percentage based on the values i have mentioned earlier in the tabular column.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Maharajan P

  • Hi Maharajan,

No, we didn't collect the efficiency at those voltages for Bucks.

    Sathish

  • Hi Sathish,

Can You please suggest me any alternate approach for calculating Efficiency for the Above mentioned BUCK regulators,

    Thanks and regards,
    Maharajan P

  • Hi Maharajan,

3.3V would be very close to 3.4V data provided.

0.85V/0.9V would be in the middle of 0.6V and 1.2V data provided.

Without knowing the exact input and output currents, i don't think there is any other way to calculate the exact efficiency.

    Sathish

  • Hi Sathish,

Efficiency is required to Calculate Input current. PLease Provide the Highest efficiency possible for the Parameters provided in the Tabular column mentioned above

In the Above mentioned Graph does those voltages are fixed or we can change,
And what does the Load set Label mean In the above provided Graph.

Can i get to how to do that simulation so that i could try once.

    Thanks and regards,
    Maharajan P

  • Hi Maharajan,

The plot shows the voltages for the data collected. You can not change those values. Load set is the output load current.

This is not the simulation data. You have to measure the input and output voltage and current at each point to generate the Efficiency plot.

For 0.9V/0.85V you can assume the peak efficiency at about 85% for Buck1 and couple of points lower for Buck2.

The above attached two Tables  Contains the INPUT and OUTPUT Voltages of the BUCKs,

Can You please plot and share the Efficiency for the above given Details,
Or please guide me how to do it, I'll give it a try also,

Efficiency is critical to estimate the Input current and the power dissipation.
Please provide me with the efficiency for the above given details as soon as possible,

    Thanks and regards,
    Maharajan P

  • Hi Maharajan,

Sathish is currently out of office, I can provide support in the meantime.

I believe I just answered this on your other thread here

but to reiterate, the TPS65219(-Q1) Efficiency and Thermal Estimator Tool can be used to obtain an estimate of efficiency data for your specified parameters.

    Best Regards,
    Sarah
