TPS923650: Inductor calculation formula from datasheet

Part Number: TPS923650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS923655

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm trying to calculate parameters using "detailed design procedure" in datasheet (8.2.1.2.1). I was trying to use formula and given example, but it gives me different results.

I calculated according to formula in "Basic Calculation of a Boost Converter's Power Stage" document, point 3 and it gives correct result.

Also given ripple peak current result 2.2A seems odd and differs from formula results.

I have same issue with buck example, I can't het same results using formula from datasheet.

Questions is, how the calculation should be done to get correct results?

  • Dear Sir,

    Thanks for reaching out!

For your question, the right way to get inductance is L=12*(24-12)/ (24*0.3*2*400) = 25uH. Maybe you might feel confused about the IL(max) in the equation. Actually, the IL(max) here refers maximum inductor DC current. For maximum inductor DC current of TPS923655 boost configuration, you can calculate it as IL(max)=Iout(max)*VOUT/VIN=1*24/12=2A. Then you can get correct inductance accordingly.

    Thank you!
