BQ25792: Schematic Review and Power Dissipation

Part Number: BQ25792

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are using the BQ25792 in our design for a 4S battery charging application. The battery output voltage varies from 12V to 16.8V, and the Load current ranges from 3.9A to 2.8A.

I have attached the schematics for your review. Kindly take a moment to check and share your valuable comments or suggestions.

Additionally, we would appreciate it if you could share the power dissipation estimation for this IC under our specified operating conditions. This information is crucial for our thermal analysis and layout planning.

Best Regards
Akin

  • Hi Akin,

I see obvious issues with the schematic.

Regarding the power dissipation estimation, you can use the efficiency measurements below

and the RthetaJA from the table below:

The package struggles to output ICHG+ISYS>4.5A without hitting thermal regulation.  As shown above it can reach 5A with VBUS close to V(BAT) but the IC die temp will close to above 100C.

Please follow the datasheet recommendation for PCB layout.

    Regards,
    Jeff
