BQ25180: Charger solution

Part Number: BQ25180
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25150, BQ25620, BQ25120A

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am looking for some linear charger solutions. I have found the BQ25180, but its termination and pre-charging settings vary based on the ICHG ratio, which lacks flexibility.

I hope to achieve more precise adjustments through I2C.

Type: Linear charger with power path function

Shipping mode (battery FET disconnect between battery and system) and wakeup pin required

Battery voltage setting: 4.5V max

VIN: 4.75V-5.25V

Charger current: 0.5A-1A

Termination current: 10mA step

Pre-charging current: 10mA step

Power Good function

Thanks!

Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

The BQ25150 aligns closely with your requirements:

    • Linear charger with power path
    • Supports up to 500mA charge current
    • Programmable pre-charge current in 1.25mA or 2.5mA steps
    • Programmable ITERM as a percentage of ICHRG (1%, 2%, 4%, 8%, 16%)
    • Programmable battery regulation voltage
    • Ship mode with /MR pin to wake charger
    • Open-drain power good status indication output (/PG pin)

If you're open to a switching charger, the BQ25620 supports:

    • Programmable ITERM in 10mA steps
    • Programmable pre-charge in 20mA steps
    • Ship mode, woken by the /QON pin
    • /PG pin for power-good indication

The BQ25120A is another linear charger with an integrated LDO and buck converter. It supports:

    • Programmable ITERM and pre-charge in 500uA or 1mA steps
    • Ship mode, woken by the /MR pin
    • /PG pin

Just to understand the use case better, is there a particular reason fine control over the pre-charge and termination currents is needed?

    Best regards,

    Alec

  • Hi Alec,

    Got it, thank you.
