UCC28730EVM-552: UCC28730

Part Number: UCC28730EVM-552
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP22288, UCC28730

Tool/software:

We are going to develop an ACDC adaptor module based on the UCC28730EVM-552 10-W.

However, UCC28730EVM-552 is a 10-W module with DC output of 5V2A.
How a
bout if we need to increase the DC output to 15V, is there any application note on circuit design?
For the DC current, around 1 A is sufficient for our application.

Or can we just use the same design in EVM by changing the transformer?
If so, is there any transformer recommendation for our 15V DC output application?

Thank you very much.

  • Hi WF,

You can use the Excel calculator to change the output voltage and update the transformer. We have a reference design PMP22288 which help get you started.

I hope this answers your question.

  • Thanks, and i will take a look.

A quick question, can I use the transformer P302264-A1-02 in PMP22288 for just 15VDC output with 0,5A max current?

Because we would like to use an existing transformer on the market instead of creating a new one based on the transformer parameter in the spreadsheet.

  • Hi WF,

The UCC28730 is a primary-side regulated controller so the turns ratios have to be adjusted to accommodate the different output voltage. If you set VOUT to be 3x the voltage, the Vaux voltage will also increase by 3x so you would have to clamp the voltage and in doing so you would lose the information required for regulation.

So unfortunately, you can't use the same transformer designed for 5V for a 15V design,

I hope this answers your question.
