TPS25751: how to output non-PD 15W(5V/3A) from PPHV line?

Hi experts,

Our customer wants to use PD controller (TPS25751D).

When they want to output non-PD 15W(5V/3A) , must they use PP5V and external DCDC for this line?

If we prepare 5V/3A power source on PPHV line, there is no need to use PP5V line, isn't there?

The customer don't want to put external DCDC because of size reduction. are there any good way to remove DCDC?

Thank you for reaching out!

The TPS25751D has an integrated 5V/3A power path (PP5V), and a high voltage power path (PPHV). 5V/3A can be sourced through PPHV when paired with an external DCDC or battery charger, but a 5V input would still be required on PP5V. This power input does not have to be 3A capable and can be lower current capable (~500mA for example).

See the following reference design for an example.

Hi Tsuyoshi-san,

Ensure that Power Path for PDO1 is set to PP3 (PP3 is PPHV, and PP1 is PP5V).

Yes, implicit 5V contracts will also switch sourcing from PP5V --> PPHV.

the customer need 5V/150mA LDO for other components and consider to summarize this and ones for PD.

so my question is the required specs for LDO to power supply TPS25751.

could we refer following? or need higher current?

What is the benefit of powering the PP5V line from a 5V3A DCDC?

Yes, this is the current that would be needed for the PD controller to source VCONN.

The benefit of using a 5V/3A power supply would be to essentially utilize the PP5V path which is robust and has protection features such as OCP.

It's great feature for TPS25751S but TPS25751D has internal HV FET and same protections.

Is it right?

Hi Tsuyoshi-san,

Both the TPS25751S and TPS25751D have an internal 5V power path (PP5V). The TPS25751D has integrated bidirectional power path that does not have OCP as this is typically managed by the external DCDC or Battery charger.
