BQ40Z50: with LCD Driving Capability

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL116

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

We are currently looking for a replacement for the BQ20Z655 IC. A critical requirement is that the IC must be capable of directly driving a 5-segment LCD display.

Based on our research in various forums, the BQ40Z50 is frequently suggested as an alternative to the BQ20Z655. However, from what we can tell, it does not appear to support direct driving of a 5-bar LCD display.

We would greatly appreciate your guidance and support on this matter.

Best regards,

  • Hello Hasan,

It depends on the LCD, but you are able to drive 5 leds with the battery gauge.

    Thank you,
    Alan

  • Hello,

While searching for an alternative to the BQ20Z655 IC, I came across the BQ78PL116. It is mentioned that this IC can directly drive a 5-segment LCD display, which would be a very useful feature for my project.

However, I would like to know if there are any issues with using this IC in a new design. Specifically:

    • Is this IC still in active production?

    • Does Texas Instruments continue to provide support for this product?

    • Has it been marked as obsolete or NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs)?

I would greatly appreciate any information you can provide on this matter.

    Thank you,

    Hasan
