LP8764-Q1: PGOOD random 182ms toggle LOW in production

Part Number: LP8764-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS6594-Q1, DRA821

Tool/software:

We encounter an intermittent problem where an LP8764-Q1 PGOOD is randomly toggled low for 182.69 ms.

It is a very rare occurrence and there is nothing in the Interrupt registers to explain why it toggled. Recovery counter is also 0 indicating the device did not go through a recovery.

Note: The PGOOD is gated by the nRESET and not by nRESET_SOC.

What could be the root cause and how to debug this?

  • Hi Lauri,

Can  you let us know the full part number of the device? so that I can see the NVM configuration for the PGOOD signal.

Also If you could provide some additional information like which SOC or MCU this NVM is used for?

    Regards,

    Ishtiaque

  • Dear Ishtiaque, please send your contact info via DM.

  • Hi,

Can you share the OPN number of the device?

  • Hi,

Thanks for the information. LP876441B1RQKRQ1 is supposed to be used together with TPS6594-Q1 (Link ) and together they power up DRA821 processor. See the user guide (Link ). LP87644-Q1 in this case cannot be used in another application as standalone. Just to clarify here before I come to the question whether in your case, this is how it is or you are using this in some other application as standalone?

Reason why this cannot be used for another application because the NVM programmed in this device is very specific to the power tree powering up the DRA821 processor system all together. And in this system design, LP877644-Q1 operates as secondary device and other as primary. So all quite many error handling events and other configurations are defined in the NVM accordingly. So that's why this is quite more specific.

If there is need to use this device in another application, then there could be two options, stated below.

    1. Request a custom device,

    •      For this you want to reach out to TI sales team in your locality or directly contact our Marketing team. But in order to approval custom part number for customer, there needs to be certain business for that device. So that means volume of the business should be large enough to meet the requirement. If the volume is small then option 2 can be suitable.

    2. Order reprogrammable device and program it yourself.

    • You would need an EVM (Link )
    • How to program it : See the scalable PMIC GUI user guide (Link )
