BQ28Z620EVM-071: BQ28Z620EVM_cell balancing

Part Number: BQ28Z620EVM-071
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ28Z620, BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I am using the BQ28Z620 EVM board with a 2S battery configuration.

I have set the thresholds for over-voltage (COV) and under-voltage (CUV). Whenever any one cell reaches the OV threshold, the protection is triggered and the FETs are turned off.

While charging, only one cell is reaching the COV threshold and the CHG FET is turning off, but the other cell hasn't reached the threshold yet.

For example:

  • Cell 1 voltage = 3.8V

  • Cell 2 voltage = 3.6V

  • COV (Charge Over Voltage) threshold = 4.000V

In this case, Cell 1 reaches 4.000V and the CHG FET turns off, but Cell 2 is still below that level (around 3.8V–3.9V).

I have enabled the Cell Balancing (CB) flag.
However, cell balancing doesn't seem to work properly.
How can I enable cell balancing correctly while charging?

I have referred to the datasheet, but it's not clear to me.
Can you please explain it clearly in steps?
