BQ25887: Li-ion charging and balancing for 2S configuration - from 12v input

Part Number: BQ25887
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25798, BQ76905, BQ29209

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm looking to charge and balance a li-ion based source that contains two 3.7 or 3.85 (4.2v / 4.35v charged) cells from a 5v / 9v / 12v input source (USB PD).

It would be nice if there was a 2S solution with integrated buck / boost converter and integrated cell balancing. What I'm finding are only ones with approximately 5v input, thus I'd have to buck down to 5v, only to have the charger's internal boost increase the voltage back up to 2S's 8.4v or 8.7 charged voltage.

Does TI make such a part?

Or which two parts should I combine, a 2S li-ion charge IC with a balancer such as bq2920x?

Any advice on this would be appreciated.
