UCC28950: No Output from UCC28950 PSFB Design Simulated from WEBENCH Circuit

Part Number: UCC28950
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

Tool/software:

48-52VDC 20A 1KW DC-DC UCC28950.zip

DEAR TI TEAM,

I'm currently working on a UCC28950-based Phase-Shifted Full-Bridge (PSFB) converter targeting a 410VDC input and 50VDC, 20A output. I used the WEBENCH Power Designer to generate a reference circuit, which I then recreated and simulated in TINA-TI.

However, despite carefully replicating the circuit and running transient simulations, I am not seeing any output at the secondary side — not even switching activity on the gate drive signals.

I've double-checked:

  • Input supply (410VDC)

  • VDD bias to the UCC28950

  • Connections to OUTA–D, OUTE–F

  • Soft start, RT, and enable configurations

  • Transformer windings and load connection

Unfortunately, the simulation produces no waveform or voltage at the output. I was hoping the WEBENCH circuit would work at least as a baseline, so this has been disappointing.

To assist with troubleshooting, I've attached my TINA-TI simulation file (.TSC). I'd really appreciate it if someone could review it and point out what I might be missing.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

Your inquiry will be addressed in the order it was received.

  • Hello,

To save time TI released a Tina model and PSpice model in a power stage that is debugged and works.  This is to save the engineer running the simulation time in the debug process.

I would recommend running the unmodified Tina model to get use to running the model and then slowly adjust the model while running simulations to match the Webench design.  Please note the components that you select should be within +/- 5% of what the Webench tool recommends.

I do have another suggestion.  The following link will bring you to an application note that goes through the step by step design process of a PSFB using the UCC28950.   There is also a link to an excel design file in the application note.  This information can be used to double check and adjust design components in your simulation.

The following link will bring you to the TINA TI page.  There is a link to application notes/technical documents that also may help you in the debug progress that you may find useful as well.
