TPS785-Q1: TPS78501QKVURQ1: Pinout discrepancy for KVU package of TPS785-Q1

Part Number: TPS785-Q1

Tool/software:

The pin function table of the datasheet for TPS785-Q1 states that GND (pin 3) is to be connected. However, for the KVU (TO252) package, this pin is not connected to footprint and rather, it is shorted to thermal pad internally. My assumption is that thermal pad is the real GND for this part. I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything.

If this is the case, should the datasheet be revised to avoid confusion? Thanks!

  • Hi Wilson,

For the KVU package, pin 3 electrically connects to the thermal pad internally. The thermal pad acts as the ground connection. I've submitted feedback on the datasheet noting that this could be made clearer in a future revision.

    Best Regards,

    Alex Davis

  • Thanks for the reply and submitting the feedback. The confusion is probably limited to the pinout table where KVU for the GND pin could be listed as N/C with a note in the table explicitly saying that it is internally connected (I know it states this elsewhere in the document).
