LM5177: LM5177 Design tools

Part Number: LM5177

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are considering using the LM5177 controller with GANFETs to build a BUCK-BOOST. Design requirements: Vin = 6V to 50V, Vout = 28V, and Iout(max) = 25Amps when VIN=24V to 50V, We are limited to 60Amps on the input.

Since the LM5177 doesn't have a PSPICE model available, I looked the LM5177EVM-HP as a reference to assess the tools available: WEBENCH, and the QUICKSTART_TOOL (EXCEL file). The WEBENCH tool generates a design using a 4uH inductor, which is not what the EXCEL tool indicates. The design files indicate that inductor on the board is 1.8uH, and the EXCEL tool seems to agree with that inductor value.

Based on this, I should not use the WEBENCH solution, and only use the recommendation generated by the EXCEL tool. Is this TI's recommendation? When do you expect to have a PSPICE model for the LM5177?

Just wanted to ask this question before designing this board.

Thanks

  • Hi Horacio,

thank you for using the E2E forum

The quickstart tool allows you more control and a better insight into the design. So especially for GaN I would recommend the Quickstart tool.

When planning to use GaN see also

    TI Demo with GaN

    EPC Demo with LM5177

Note: I recommend to use the newer version LM51770 (which is pin compatible)

A PSpice model will not be release soon.

    Best regards,
