TPS546E25: SIMPLIS AC ANALYSIS

Part Number: TPS546E25

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Whiile running POP Analysis i m getting below error with the simplis model avaiable on TI website of TPS546E25

Here is teh default POP setting

I tried to change the Maximum period but still same error. Can you please check and let me know what is issue?

I would like to run the AC analyis to get  Gain and Phase margin value.

Many Thanks

Rajat

  • Hi Rajat,

Please follow below steps to run AC Analysis on TPS546E25 Simplis:

    • Run a Transient Analysis first
    • Then after running transient analysis successfully, uncheck "Transient" and check "POP" and "AC"
    • Change the maximum period to 100us
    • Run AC analysis

    Thank you,

    Calan

  • Hi Calan,

I am able to run now.

Why the Gain Margin value shows ERROR?

  • Hi Rajat,

Regarding the Gain Margin value, this is because the Bode Plot is zoomed in on a specific frequency range, which does not happen to show the Gain Margin. If you zoom out on the frequency range, such as 100Hz to 5MHz, you should be able to see the Phase cross 0 deg and you can see the Gain Margin. Please see below image:

    Hope this helps

If this helped solve your issue, please don't forget to click "This resolved my issue"

    Thank you,

    Calan

  • Hi Calan,

Yes, I can see now gain margin value.

For our design requirement I have updated excel calculation sheet of TPS546E25 based on below requirement.

    VIN-12V

    VOUT-1V

    IOUT -33A

    Step Load - 0->33->0A

    Ripple 1%

    Vout Transient - 2%

L, C, Pin strap resistor is updated into the simplis netlist and ran the Transient and AC analysis.

I am getting good results in Transient analysis.

    Transient Analysis Result -

    Overshoot-8.48 mV

    Underhoot-8.48 mV

    Ripple- 5 mV

    AC Analysis -

I can see my Phase margin is coming around 437 degrees. I am not sure with 437 degree what will be the regulation of my system.

because for stable system the phase margin should be in between 40° and 70°.Above a phase margin of 70°, systems tend to be very stable but with extremely slow regulation.

please share your email id so I can share the updated simplis model and excel calculation sheet for review.

You can also send me the test email on my email id rajat.singh@amd.com

    Many Thanks

    Rajat

  • Hi Rajat,

I will send you an email, and will close this thread.
