TPS55287: Please review the schematics.

Part Number: TPS55287
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS55285

Tool/software:

We are designing a power supply circuit using the TPS55287.
Please review my circuit to see if it is correct.

Use cases are shown below.
1. VIN : 5V (USB_TYPEC_VBUS)
2. VOUT has two operations.
    VOUT : 3.5V 0.5A
    VOUT : 11V  1.0A
3. No external FB resistor is used. VOUT is set by I2C.

4. Output current limit function is not used.TPS55287_E2E.pdf

  • Hi Kakimoto-san,

Thank you for reaching out. May I know what is the application here?

About the schematic, below is my feedback:

    1.What is part number of C4001, C4019, C4020, C4021?

2.Recommend to change C4004, C4005, C4014, C4017 to 0402 package and put them close to IC,

    3.Add a pull-down resistor in EN pin.

    4. Make sure SCL and SDA are pulled up.

    5.Changg R40000 to 0ohm.

6.Recommend to change R4009 and R4008 to 1206/0805 package for thermal disspation.

    7. With output cap PN, I will help evaluate compensation parameters.

    8.Follow layout guideline.5710.TPS55289 Layout Guideline.pdf

    Regards,

    Mulin

  • Dear Mulin

    Thank you for your response.
The intended use of this circuit is to adjust the temperature of a heater connected to the rear stage.
Therefore, the ripple voltage is not that important.
However, this board should be as small as possible.

    1. The second page of the first attached TPS55287_E2E.pdf contains the BOM list. It is described again below.
      C4001 : GRM21BR61A476ME15L
      C4019 : GRM188R61E106MA73D
      C4020 : GRM188R61E106MA73D
      C4021 : 16TQC33MYFB

    2. Sorry I forgot to tell you. The chip size was stated in mm. (0603 mm = 0201 inch)
I place it in the immediate vicinity of the package.

    3-5. Understood.

    6. Understood. We will accommodate as much as possible due to the need for miniaturization.

    7-8. Understood.

  • Hi Kakimoto,

I will reply to you later today.

  • Hi Kakimoto,

Since there is size requirement, we have a new product TPS55285: https://www.ti.com/product/TPS55285 It is already APLed and will RTM in October. It is 2.3*3.5 package size and has less external component. Do you have interest in it?

Loop parameters looks ok to me.

    Regards,

    Mulin

  • Dear mulin

Thank you for checking my schematic.

    I am interested about TPS55285.
    Thank you for your suggestion.

However, for this circuit, I would like to proceed with TPS55287.
This is because the design time is short and we have already proceeded to arrange the components.

    Regards,

  • Hi Kakimoto,

Thank you. I will close this thread now, any new problem feel free to reply and it will open again.

    Regards,
