Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25948
Tool/software:
I’m working on a design that needs to switch between two 5V power sources with up to 5A -6A current. Can the TPS25947 be used as power switches in this application?

Hi!
Yes, TPS25947 can used for 5V/5.5A power muxing application. For better operating current range, use TPS25948 (8A). Refer to data sheet section 9.5 for power mux implementation.

Hi Arush,
Which is better among ORing Controller and eFuses for this application? Pls let me know if you need any details about our application.

Hi Srikanth,
If you need >5.5A current, go for TPS25948. If your current is up to 5.5A, you can go for TPS25947 as it is cheaper.
Both of these devices are very similar.

Hi Arush,
Thanks for your suggestion. Our current rating is >5.5A. So, I will try to use TPS25948.
Both above mentioned parts are eFuse type. Is there any advantage of eFuse type over ORing Controller for this application?
Could you please clarity this?

Srikanth Kacchu
Hi Srikanth,
By Oring controllers, do you mean power MUX ICs or Ideal diodes.
eFuse have integrated FETs. In case of ideal diodes, they have external FET in general. So ID vs eFuse becomes more of an end application based choice. Automotives prefer external FET and personal electronics prefer integrated FETs.
For power mux, we don't have >4A devices.
