Can multiple 4s2p cell packs be placed in parallel with each pack having its own BQ40Z80 BMS and then there own BQ24617 for charging and then charging them from a common external power supply with the appropriate current rating (say 3A per pack) What are the pros and cons and the pitfalls to avoid? Is there a better way to do this? Can all of the outputs be tied together to run the load?

Hello Randy,

I would recommend looking into battery monitors system since they are stackable and are able be combined together. Battery gauges aren't intended to be used in such fashion.

Do the monitors and balancer support the charging as well? Or is there a suggestion for that ?

Monitors support charging and discharging and for more in-depth question I would recommend asking another e2e since I don't manage that line of products.
