BQ79616-Q1: BQ79616-Q1

Part Number: BQ79616-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79616

Tool/software:

Can the chip BQ79616-Q1 be used for aircraft HV batteries? Does the chip fulfill the requirements for SW independent warning of cell over-voltage (OV), under-voltage (UV), and over-temperature (OT.

as a redundant warning system to the BMS outputs per CAN data.

  • Hi Philipp,

Yes, we do have customer who have implemented or are evaluating our cell monitor devices for aircraft applications. Could you please elaborate more on what do you mean by "SW independent warning"? I want to make sure I am understanding your requirement correctly. Do you mean that if our device can detect these faults without interaction from the MCU?

    Thanks!

    Best,

    Abigail Bueno.

  • Dear Abigail

Do you mean that if our device can detect these faults without interaction from the MCU? Yes, if this faults are detected without interaction from MCU, then it is accepted. If the MCU is involved and the SW is flashed, and exactly this SW version is already accepted in aviation for a specific aircraft, the it is also ok! Can you check it and let me know? Best regards Philipp

  • Hi Philipp,

Our device has the NFAULT pin which will flag any issues detected by the BQ79616, these issues may include UV/OV in the VC/CB voltage channels, OT on the GPIOs, communication issues, etc.. These faults are detected by our device, without need of the MCU, but the response is up to the customer as our device only flags the issue.

    Thanks!

    Best,

    Abigail.
