BQ79656-Q1: Question about BQ79656-Q1

Part Number: BQ79656-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79616-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer considers BQ79656-Q1 for their new project, 48V BMS system.

And they asked some questions. Could you check it?

1. Is it possible to use only BQ79656-Q1 and external MCU without communication IC like BQ79600?

2. If no.1 is possible, Do you have reference schematic and example source code?

3. I can see Main ADC(SAR) block and AUX ADC(SAR) block in Functional Block Diagram. is the reason why BQ79656-Q1 have 2 ADCs because of redundancy regarding to ASIL-D?

4. Is there any other solution for redundancy for BMS system?

Please check these issues. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    1) You can use our BQ devices without needing a 600 base device. This is a totally normal and acceptable design.

    2) Both our datasheet and EVM user's guide offer reference schematics and BOMs for development on the part page on TI's website. Regarding software, you may use the BQ79616-Q1 software with BQ79656 as the commands and communication structure are the same.

    3) Yes, this is for redundancy

    4) GPIO pins also feature main and redundant ADCs which can be used if needed. We also have built in comparators which can be run to compare main and redundant ADCs.

    Thank you,

    Zachary
