TPS546E25: TPS546E25 design support

Part Number: TPS546E25

Tool/software:

Hi,

We would really appreciate it if you could answer these questions related to the design for the support  of TPS546E25.

  1. At J9.11, SW the output terminal has the filter connection in the simplified Schematic. Need to confirm if this pin can be connected to ground via a 1.0k resistor would suffice.
  2. Also, capacitor requirements at the J9.20 PVIN. (Input voltage)( Typical Application in the data sheet shows 100uF x 3, 22uF x 8 and 0.1uF x 2 ) . Do we need these many caps? How many are required at minimum?

Thanks!

  • Hello,

    • Pin 11 SW pin, can only be connected to SW output terminal. Please do not connect this pin to GND via 1kohm resistor. Please follow schematic in the datasheet and User Guide
    • Input capacitors on the input will focus on reducing the input voltage ripple and maintain high frequency bypassing. You may not need as many as the EVM schematic, but similar amount is ok. Please see below from datasheet:

    Hope this helps

  • We are designing a PCB schematic to program the device offboard. So, does the SW pin need a connection between VOSNS pin? What should be the minimal connection requirement for SW and VOSNS pin?

  • Hello,

Yes, SW should be connected to the output inductor, and VOSNS should be connected to the output for accurate sensing. The schematic you attached shows the proper connection between VOSNS and SW.

    Thank you,
