TPS2552-1: TPS2552 R LIM Range

Part Number: TPS2552-1

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are using this part to provide a 2 level current limit based on a GPIO output.

We would like the lower limit 75mA, and the upper limit close to 1A.

We have tested with the following configuration and haven't encountered any issues, however, I note on the datasheet that the 1M is outside the recommended range and may cause loop instabliity.

Do you anticipate this to be an issue, do you propose any other solutions?

Thanks

  • Hello Nathan,

I will look into this and get back to you shortly.

  • Hi Nathan,

The recommendations in the datasheet should always be followed, so I advise that the customer does not use any resistors higher than 232kΩ. The alternative solution can be found on page 15 of the datasheet:

"While the maximum recommended value of RILIM is 232 kΩ, there is one additional configuration that allows for a lower current-limit threshold. The ILIM pin may be connected directly to IN to provide a 75 mA (typical) current-limit threshold. Additional low-ESR ceramic capacitance may be necessary from IN to GND in this configuration to prevent unwanted noise from coupling into the sensitive ILIM circuitry."

This way, the customer can save some BOM cost by eliminating the need for the 1MΩ resistor.
