LM5118: 80V input transient

Part Number: LM5118
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5177, LM51770

Tool/software:

The LM5118 has an absolute max voltage rating of 76V.  Is it able to survive an 80V transient with 20 ms duration?  It looks like the LM5177 may be more appropriate for this use case, but LM5118 is already designed in so wanting to double-check.

  • Hi Dallas,

the LM5118 is qualified for abs max voltages on VIN for up to 76V.

Stresses beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device.

I also would recommend to use the LM51770 instead of the LM5177. It has the same features functions and footprint but offers better performance and higher operating voltages.

    Best regards,

     Stefan
