TPS922050: Analog Dimming different to e.g. TPS922052?

Part Number: TPS922050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS922052,

Tool/software:

Hello,

it is about the D2 (analog dimming) devices, TPS92205xD2.

As i understand it from the datasheet, the analog dimming method is "real" analog dimming.

But the e.g. TPS922052 has analog dimming as a PWM signal beeing converted to an analog voltage internally, so it is a "PWM-to-Analog" (output is not doing PWM, but internal current reference is changed).

In the TPS922052 datasheet, you can find the following sentence at "7.3.5.2 Analog Dimming":

"The TPS92205x family supports analog dimming which regulates [...]"

I assume, that is a datasheet error of the TPS922052, as the analog dimming method of the TPS922050/1 (beein a TPS92205x family?) is different? I would be happy, if the TPS922050D2 has the same analog dimming method as the TPS922052. I would prefer it because of half the package size and lower pin-count.

Best Regards,

WM

  • Hi WM,

Our expert will give you reply later, thanks for the patience.

  • Dear WM,

Thanks for reaching out! Just as you said, the difference is that, the input signal of TPS922051D2 is true analog signal for DIM pin, while for TPS922052, the input signal of TPS922052 is PWM signal when it's configured as analog dimming. However, for both of them, when they are configured as analog dimming, vref will be changed to the desired value.

    Thank you!

    BRs
