LMR51610-Q1: Input Capacitance and Inductor for Compact Design

Part Number: LMR51610-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR51606

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using LMR51610-Q1 for our project that;

Vin shall be around: 8-32V

Vout and Iout shall be 5V and 200mA

Our PCB shall be very small so we have to make compact design.

According to that design is the input capacitors valid for operation? product.samsungsem.com/.../CL32B225KCJSNN.do

Also I want to reduce inductor size.

So can I use https://www.we-online.com/components/products/datasheet/74438335330.pdf as a Inductor for 5V 200mA out?

Best regards,

Egemen

  • Hello Egemen

    Here are my comments on schematic

    1. Input capacitor choice looks fine to me.
    2. Inductor DCR is quite high and will result in lower efficiency.  Efficiency by 3-4% point by selecting for DCR of ~100 mOhm. For optimal size solution I would recommend choosing LMR51606 instead. This will allow you to choose inductor of lower saturation current rating while keeping the size same.

    Hope this helps thank you
