TPS552882EVM-400KHZ: PFM Mode configuration

Part Number: TPS552882EVM-400KHZ
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS552882

Tool/software:

Hello,

I replaced R8 for a 6.2kohm resistor, as stated in the table from the datasheet (it exactly asks for 6.19kohm but I don't have that one and I understand it is not that sensitive given the resistance steps between modes), to get the MODE Setting with Internal VCC Source, 74h I2C Slave Address (although not using I2C) and PFM Operating Mode.

PFM should regulate the frequency so that when the DCDC output is connected to a dual supply line, where the other supply has a higher voltage, it pulls the frequency to zero so there is no power output from the DCDC as the other supply line takes the line over.

I've tested this with the TPS55892EVM and it does occur this.

Meanwhile, when testing it with the TPS55882EVM there's a current output from the DCDC when both the DCDC and the other supply are ON connected in the same dual supply line. Therefore, it makes me think either the MODE is not properly set by the resistor change or, there's something within the IC that changes from the TPS55892 and the TPS55882 which doesn't allow this to be achieved.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

  • Hi Joaquin,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Which EVM did you test with? TPS552882, non-I2C version, right?

To set the device operating at PFM mode, the MODE resistor is recommended with below four options. With Rmode=6.2k, it is still in FPWM mode. You can try with Rmode=24.9k and have a try.

    BRs,
