USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01: Output voltage is 9V

Part Number: USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25750, BQ25792

Tool/software:

I used TPS25750 and BQ25792 and here is the schematic.

I replicated everything on the EVM board, but it appears when I flash my image on the EVM vs on my board I get a 9V on the SYS output not 12V (for a 3S program)

Any clues as to why?

  • Hi Aria,

With no battery or low battery attached, V(SYS)=MINSYS=9V by default.  As the battery charges, V(SYS) follows the battery up to 12.6V default.

    Jeff

  • oh that makes sense. thank you. however in the EVM I see, even if I do not have a battery connected it still gives me 12V. (I used to have batteries connecgted at one time). but not currently in the test.
Does the EVM have some special design?

  • Hi Aria,

I do not think so.  The difference is likely charge being enabled or not.  If charge is enabled (CE bit =1, CE pin=0 and no TS fault due to 10kohm simulating thermistor on EVM) but no battery connected, BAT charges its min capacitance 12.6V (actually slightly higher to BATOVP), SYS follows, converter turns off to allow for SYS and BAT to discharge and the cycle repeats.  If there is no load on SYS, SYS average output is closer to 12.6V.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Ok that makes sense also. I do not have any load on the EVM. Thank you for your prompt response. I will connect the batteries and wait for it to charge
