BQ51013A: Qi Compliant Receiver IC

Part Number: BQ51013A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013C, TIDA-00318

Tool/software:

Hi

I am designing a wearable RFID reader, and as part of my application, I want to incorporate a wireless Qi2 compatible receiver that can charge a 1S1P battery at 4.2V. If TI has any Qi2 compliant chips with a suggested RX coil, that would be great to know. Otherwise, what other choices do I have? Given that the product is modest, measuring about 40 mm (w) by 60 mm (l) by 40 mm (h), the coil's size must be taken into account. Since the application is only in RX mode, any rating between 5W and 15W is adequate. Please give me any RX IC recommendations that I can utilise.

Kind Regards

DA

  • Hi DA

Do you require Qi Certification to WPC standard?

    What is your charge current?

A couple of the devices to take a look at:

    1.) BQ51013C -- 5V output WPC 1.3 device

2.) If you do not need Qi certifications take a look at reference design TIDA-00318

  • Hi Bill

Thank you for your prompt response. To clarify our requirements:

    1. Certification:

      • We require Qi2 (MPP) certification (WPC 2.0) for optimal compatibility with modern chargers.

      • If Qi2-certified options are unavailable, we can consider WPC 1.3 (EPP) as an interim solution, provided long-term supply is guaranteed.

    2. Charge Current:

      • Target output: 5V/3A (15W) for fast charging.

      • If 15W isn’t feasible, we’d evaluate 5V/2A (10W) solutions.

    Regarding Your Suggestions:

    • BQ51013C (WPC 1.3):

      • Does this IC support 15W EPP, or is it limited to lower power?

      • Is there a roadmap for a Qi2-compliant successor?

    • TIDA-00318 (Non-Qi):

      • We prefer Qi-certified solutions for market compliance, but we’d review this if no alternatives exist.

    Additional Requests:

    • Could you confirm if TI plans to release a Qi2-certified receiver IC in 2024?

    • Are there EVM kits available for testing the BQ51013C?

We’re under tight timelines and would appreciate your guidance on the best path forward. Thank you for your support!

  • Hi DA

We cannot support 15W applications which are MPP and EPP.  Limited to 5W which will be BPP and WPC 1.3.
