BQ25798: how to avoid this thermal shut down of Bq25798

Part Number: BQ25798

Tool/software:

Hello Ti,

I am using Bq25798, I would like to check if excess temperature rise is effecting the power down of system or not,
I am unable to find the hex value through which I can get it.

and also how can I avoid this thermal shut down.

Best regards
Abhineet Ranjan

  • Hi Abhineet,

The charger has thermal regulation that reduces input power, and therefore output power, to keep die temp less than the selected value (default = 125C) in REG0x16[7:6].  It also has thermal shutdown (REG0x16[7:6] default 150C) which typically is only reached if the ambient rises very high, very fast.  The fault flags and status bits are summarized below:

    TSHUT fault flag - REG0x27[2]

    TSHUT fault status - REG0x21[2]

    TREG fault flag - REG0x23[2]

    TREG fault status - REG0x1D[2].

This package dissipates heat through the pins so connecting the pins to large planes on multiple layers is best for heat dissipation.

  • what is discharging output current slew rarte of bq25798 and maximum currrent for discharging.
if yes how can I increase it.

  • HI Abhineet,

I do not have a slew rate spec.  There is a body diode from BAT to SYS always present.  The max discharge current spec is below:

To increase discharge current only when VBUS is not present, please review the app note at the link below:
