BQ40Z50-R2: 2S1P and 2S2P configuration

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z80, BQ40Z50

Tool/software:

For the new project, we will follow your suggestion and use the BQ40Z50-R2.
A question, we found the BQ40Z80 in our part library. However, the colleague who introduced the circuit will not be in the house for a long time.
If I see that right at first glance, that BQ40Z80 is "only" for series connection. In our project we want to use 2S1P, i.e. 2 pcs. 18650 in series. Later, possibly 2S2P, but that is pure theory at the moment.
We could also use the BQ40Z80 for 2S1P, but not for 2S2P, is that right? Does the BQ40Z80 for 2S1P offer benefits compared the BQ40Z50?

  • Hello Hanno,

You are able to increase or decrease the amount of cells in parallel you would simply need to update the "design capacity" parameter when you do so. In terms of benfits of the BQ40z80 and the BQ40z50 you would need to review the Technical reference manual and datasheets to get a more in-depth look.

    Thank you,
    Alan
