BQ25630: Application Questions

Part Number: BQ25630

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

Customer has some questions about BQ25630:

  1. I see IBAT_ADC and IBUS_ADC for current measurements. Is there a way to measure system load(I_SYS)?
  2. Have you noticed any thermal issues while charging at max current with the small package size?
  3. How long can you charge at max current before charging current starts getting throttled?

Thank you!

McKenna

  • Hi McKenna,

    Please see my comments below.

    1) There is unfortunately not a dedicated ADC channel for ISYS on this device.

    2) There are certain test scenarios where IC temperature will approach 120degC, which is default thermal regulation threshold, when charging at 5A. Does customer plan to use this device with a USB type C input source? I ask because with a 5V 3A rated USB C input you will not be able to charge at the 5A max ICHG setting.

3)I am not sure I quite follow this question. Are they asking what protections within the IC will throttle the charge current? I will attempt to answer as best I can below, but happy to follow up if it does not get to the root of what your customer is asking.

Unless charge is stopped by the safety timer or charge current is reduced by IINDPM,VINDPM, or thermal regulation the charge current will not reduce until battery voltage reaches full charge threshold and device transitions from constant current mode to constant voltage mode.
