I have made an evaluation board for 4 boost DC-DC convertor . They are TPS61022, TPS61033, TPS 61230 and TPS61070.

The input is powered by a 3,2V battery, and output all set to 5V with resisters.

So, first test is power them up at the same time, but no load at all.

when power it up, the TPS61022 and TPS61033 have no output and getting really hot , one trace is brut to disappeared.

This is not short, I measure the output and input pin, there were no shortage at all.

I have made two boards, they all have the same problem.

The TPS61070 works, but when 0.3A load connected, the output would drop down to 4.5V (0.7V from no load).

The TPS61023 is the only one works as expected.

The circuit are all referred from datasheet: what could be the problem of 75% of them didn't work?

Addition info on the testing, there is no oscillating waveform at the induction output side on TPS61022 and TPS61033, seems like the chip wasn't able to switch to work.

Hi Nan,

The schematic you attached is too small. Please re-attached a clear version.

And also, please provide the layout for check.

3.2V Vin to 5V Vout is a very common application. I think there are some setup related issues that make the devices can't work normally.

Hi Nan,

Please add output capacitors and put them close the each of the boost converter, and then try again.

The path from OUT pin to Cout to GND pin should be as short as possible.

Add a 10uF cap on the TPS61022 Cout, very close to the Output pin, but no help, still heat as hell and 1.8V measured without load applied.
seems the chip is broken, but two identical boards are the same.

Please use a fresh unit of TPS61022, add a 10μF cap at the VOUT and place it close to the chip, and disconnect all the load, then check whether the device can work normally on your board.

Hi Lei,

I did what exactly as you said, the 10uF capacitor is added at the H1 where is close enough to the chip, and there is no load at all. It just don't have output as expected.

Hi Nan,

If such a circuit as below with a new TPS61022 doesn't work, please measure and provide the voltages on all the pins. Especially on the VIN, EN and SW pins.
