HI Team,
If there is a short on IMON pin or if the RIMON resistor <1Kohms, what will be the impact?
Only current monitoring will be affected?

Hello Vidhya,
IMON pin max voltage range is 4V. If it's short or resistance is less then it will reach to 4V at even lower current.
Device has a 4V clamp inside. It can clamp the voltage.
Current monitoring will be affected as the voltage won't be changing with respect to current because IMON has reached its max voltage to show the variation in current.
It's recommended to keep RIMON with in datasheet specified range.
Thanks
Amrit
Hello Vidhya,
Yes, there will be no effect on VOUT because of IMON. However, IMON pin abs max violation can lead to device failure.
Is there any case where IMON may get shorted? You can leave the pin floating if not indented to use.
Device has protection against ILIM pin short.
Thanks
Amrit
Hi Amrit,
My case is short circuit to ground. IMON Pin max voltage 4V will be observed.
but this IMON pin is connected to an ADC whose Absolute max is 3.6V only.
only when VIN is reversed, IMON Pin and device gets damaged and VOUT will be OFF? If not reversed, only IMON function is affected and VOUT has no issue?
Kindly clarify.
Thanks,
Vidhya
Hello Vidhya,
When shorted to GND IMON pin voltage will be zero. the clamp will work to protect the IMON pin voltage going more than 4V when less than recommended resistance is connected and load current is higher.
My previous statement may have created confusion.
Yes, VOUT will have no issue when IMON shorted to GND.
Thanks
Amrit
