UCD3138A: Reset root cause identification

Part Number: UCD3138A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD3138

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I am trying to help my customer identify the root cause of UCD3138 reset.

Want to check if there a reset source register, that can help users to identify what is causing the reset( POR, flash error and etc.)

And what is the recommended routine to check UCD3138 reset reason?

Regards,

Brian

  • Hello Brian,

I do not think we have a register that tracks how often the UCD3138 resets.

Can you please elaborate more on the UCD3138 reset issue? Is there a specific condition that causes the UCD3138 to reset? For example, there is a known issue where the UCD3138 may reset at cold temperatures. An improved layout with extra capacitance at the V33D/BP18 pins to prevent reset at cold temperatures is available upon request.

  • Hi Jonathan,

The problem is UCD3138 may reset under server PSU surge test.

Do you have idea how surge test may influence the running of UCD3138?  And customer is request to have waveforms/testing data to explain the issue. Any suggestion on which pins we should be measuring that may cause the reset issue?

    Regards,

    Brian

  • Hello Brian,

    What topology are you using?

If a server PSU surge test is causing a UCD3138 reset issue, then I suspect there is instability in the power pins. Try probing the V33D and BP18 pins to ensure the supply to the pins are stable.

Also, do any other components fail or only the UCD3138? Does the UCD3138 come back out of the reset or does it stay off after the surge test? Do you have waveforms of the DPWMs and input voltage to see how the UCD3138 is performing during the surge test? It will be useful to see at what voltage during the surge test the UCD3138 resets.
