BQ28Z610: Battery disconnection

Part Number: BQ28Z610

Tool/software:

Hi,

During production, can I program the gold image before connecting the battery?

Also once the battery is attached, can I disconnect it (as long as I only reconnect the same battery) or does it need to stay permanently connected to the fuel gauge?

  • Hello Nate,

The gauge is powered through the cell input connection, without the gauge being connected to the source of power it would not be able to have any data be flash on to it. You are able to get flash the golden image with the cell and then disconnect the cell and have the last programmed gold image be there.

    Thank you,
    Alan

  • Hi Alan,

Isn't the gauge powered by the PACK pin as well?

This is what we had in mind:

1- Power via pack input (battery disconnected)

    2- Program golden image

3- Remove power and assemble unit

    4- Connect battery to gauge

  • Hello Nate,

I was able to confirm that you can still connect to the battery gauge through the PACK pin, and seeing this you could be able to do the steps outline above. However I would confirm that it is possible on the user end however I don't see any obvious issues in doing this.

    Thank you,
    Alan

  • Hi Alan,

Thank you for confirming. As a follow-up question

After the battery has been connected to the gauge, is it OK to disconnect it and connect it again? (I assume a RESET command will be required)

  • Hello Nate,

If possible confirm that the Fet's are open before you disconnect/connect the cell and afterwards you may need to clear any flags but none should pop up. Another thing to note is that the reset command does not clear PF flags.

    Thank you,
    Alan
