TPS65218D0: Is it possible to trigger a full power-down and power-up sequence of AM3351 using TPS65218D0 I2C interface?

Part Number: TPS65218D0

Tool/software:

It may be useful to perform a full power cycle of the AM335x initiated via software control of the TPS65218D0 PMIC from the AM335x using the I2C interface.  Is this possible in the TPS65218D0?

I see the push button input can perform such a function in the "RESET" section 5.4.5 in the TPS65218D0 datasheet, and it seems like such a thing would be useful to trigger from the CPU over I2C, but i don't see that directly implemented, and I don't see a clear means of utilizing the existing register set to do so.

  • HI Thomas,

There is no dedicated register setting for initiating a power cycle of the TPS65218D0 using an I2C command.
The triggers for power-down sequence are only the following:

If the POWER_EN is de-asserted by your SOC, it will cause the PMIC to power down, and upon reasserting HIGH, it will power up again.

But there is no dedicated software reset/ power cycle feature built into the TPS65218D0 itself.

    Best Regards,
    Sarah
