TPS3700: Power dissipation Power Consumption of the IC

Part Number: TPS3700
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software:

Hi TI

I would like to enquire if there is anyway i can do to calculate the power dissipation of the TPS3700 IC with explanation? I can calculate the static loss through the leakage current but how about the dynamic power dissipation? Any other factor I should also look at?

  • Hi Ena,

Our supervisor is low IQ, simple devices and we are not switching, so static loss should be good enough to calculate power dissipation.

But I think you might like to check App note:  Semiconductor and IC Package Thermal Metrics for RθJA, which quantifies how well a device dissipates heat from its internal junction (where the power is dissipated) to the surrounding ambient environment.

  • Hi Sila,

Thanks for your help! What happens when OV or UV is detected and the logic states switches from high to low and then it changes back when none is detected?

I tried running the TINA-TI software and I measured the OUTA and OUTB current reading to be around 689uA when it is logic HIGH and 1.83nA when it is logic LOW.

If I were to calculate the current consumption of the ic how should I go about doing so? Will it also be considered the static power?

  • Forgot to add in that my pullup to 3.3V is 4.75kOhm. I want to calculate the power consumption/dissipation so I can select the resistor power rating with the 0.5 derating.

  • Hi Ena,

Yes, that also consider as static power. Please refer the supply current, input current value from the datasheet.
