TLV733P-Q1: Input capacitor and output capacitor requirement

Part Number: TLV733P-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello Expert,

My customer is using TLV73318PQDRVRQ1 and reviewing their external component with car oem.

She is using 1uF MLCC on the input and output of TLV73318PQDRVRQ1.

Datasheets doesn't specify requirement of Cin and Cout about ESR and Frequency range for the ESR to meet.

Could you please specify which frequency range and what ESR should meet as requirement?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Kenneth,

The TLV733P-Q1 uses an advanced internal control loop to obtain stable operation both with and without the use of input or output capacitors i.e. the input and output capacitors are optional.

In general, the ESR must be within a recommended range (if provided) across the bandwidth of the LDO (from 1 kHz to 100 kHz)

    Regards

    Ishaan

  • Hello Ishaan, Thank you for your help. I'd like to know the recommended value of ESR.

Could you specify what ESR (ohm) is required for 1kHz ~ 100kHz?

Here's ESR characteristic of capacitor being used in customer schematic.

    Please advise. Thank you.

  • There is no recommended value for this device because COUT is optional. My comment was for general applications for LDOs.

If the customer is considering adding a COUT, ask them to use X5R- and X7R-type ceramic capacitors because these capacitors have minimal variation in value and equivalent series resistance (ESR) over temperature. The low ESR for most ceramic caps is supported.
