TPS25982: Using TPS25982 with 12V DC fan having peak current 19A

Hi Team

We are using above part for controlling power on DC fan , typical current requirement is 9 Amp , but peak current requirement is 19 Amp. I want to understand

if I will limit current to 11Amp . what will be behaviour of IC during start-up.

1) Will it keep on supplying 11Amp or it will turn off ?

2) Based on application notes SLVA683 TPS25982 can able to limit peak current requirements. But can you please confirm if same part will be okay in above configuration.

There are two variants of this part. If you use circuit breaker, the device will turn off after blanking timer. If you choose current limiter variant, the current will be limited to 11A. If the power dissipation is very high, then device will perform thermal shutdown.

Yes, TPS25982 can be used for fan loads. You have to configure current limit value and blanking timer accordingly.

Thanks for providing quick reply. How I can calculate the power dissipation while device is limiting current.

Do you have any application note for similar application.
